There's a key
In my head, a mystery
I'm alone
In the caverns of your soul
Ahhh from the quay
Ride the current to the sea
On my own
Bound for the caverns of your soul
I'm on my way
Wet from white waves
You're beckoning me
From the depths of dark caves
Moon move me on
Light up my way
Drift until dawn
Instrumental
Moon move me on
Light up my way
Drift until dawn
On the wake (on the wake)
Going backwards, my mistake
Leaving you
In the caverns of your soul
Leaving you
In the caverns of your soul
Leaving you all alone
In the caverns of your soul
Leaving You...
I think this was yet another great Cliff (Coates) title, which we finished off with help from Stella Ager (now Day) who took over main singing duties at the time (1992 Gregorian). It's a poetical allegory which all springs forth from the title. The music is mainly mine but Cliff did put a nice bass riff on it, so that will have to be recorded one day...
The version here was a little live acoustic demo we did at a mate's place in 1996. I'd already left "the band" (The Ultimate Shed) 3 years earlier, but they were recording some demos and invited me along.
As you can hear it's not a great recording, the levels peak pretty badly in places, but the main thing with these old demos is just to hear how the song goes. More 1990s Haley/Coates nostalgia!
