Some of you are black
Some of you are white
Though you only see a face
You judge each one on sight
Some of you are rich
Some of you are poor
Though you all want different things
You all need to feel secure
And You All Need Love
And You All Feel Shame
And though you all have different skin
Inside you're all the same
Some of you are good
Some of you are bad
And if you only live one life
Why make each other sad
And You All Need Love
And You All Feel Shame
And though you all have different skin
Inside you're all the same
Some of us have hope
Others just despair
When will you all realise
You've earth enough to share
And You All Need Love
And You All Feel Shame
And though you all have different skin
Inside you're all the same
And You All Need Love
And You All Feel Shame
And though you all have different skin
Inside you're all the same
Inside you're all the same
And you've earth enough to share
Inside you're all the same
And you've earth enough to share
One of those songs that can't help being cheesy, but even so has a nice simple message.
It started with a late night drunken smalchy session on the piano with my mate and songwriting buddy Cliff Coates. I imagined God sad at the piano singing to us all and wondered what he/she/they/it would say. What would the lyrics be?
Whatever we may see on the outside we're all the same inside. And wherever we may be from, or wherever we may be right now, we have been given enough space to share between us.
So I imagine God singing "...inside you're all the same and you've earth enough to share..."
