When I look around I find it so astounding
We put up with all this shit
Almost everyday we ride a tidal wave
And some are washed away with it
You can fight it if you try
If you stop and wonder why
If you stand up for what you believe
There’s no end to what you can achieve
If you look back tomorrow you’ll see
Mirrors of me
We spend far too long not being what we want to
Doing things we’d rather not
Never satisfied, but the truth’s inside
Not in the things we crave and haven’t got
You can change the way you live
Instead of taking you can give a little bit of you
And stand up for what you believe
There’s no end to what you can achieve
If you look back tomorrow you’ll see
Mirrors of me
Instrumental
If you stand up for what you believe
There’s no end to what you can achieve
If you look back tomorrow you’ll see
Stand up for what you believe
Don’t stay when it’s better to leave
And life will be better you’ll see
Mirrors of me
Mirrors of me
Mirrors of me
Mirrors of me
Looking back on this one I can see that it is a song to my future self. At the time I thought I was writing generally good advice for everyone, but now I can see that I acted on my own advice and life is certainly much better!
Many of us get trapped in the stereotypical soap operas of modern life, and don't always say what we realy think and believe. But rather than moaning about it all to your mates down the pub, "putting the world to rights" as they say, you can actually 'stand up for what you believe' and change your life.
Look in the mirror and see if you can see your future self looking back at you. Are they smiling, or shaking their head in pity?!
When you change things for the better you can look back at your past self from the other side of the looking glass and give them a big smile! :D
(There's a possibility that the title for this one may have come from a session with Cliff Coates so if that's the case I acknowledge it here)
