And so they say, the world is round
I wouldn't care if it was square
As long as nature's there for me
And not a memory in my head
The Magic of the Natural E.....
Is all I'll need when I am dead
And so they say, the sea is green
They couldn't say the sea is clean
As long as waste is out of reach
And there is life along the shore
They sit there laughing on the beach...
And Neptune's dying cries ignore
Chorus 1
We've go to get away from
Living for today
And start thinking about tomorrow
What I'm trying to say
Is all the worlds on loan
We've got to give back what we borrowed
Instrumental
As long as Nature's there for me
And not some memory in my head
The magic of the Natural E
Is all I'll need when I am dead
Chorus 2
We've go to get away from
Living for today
And start thinking about tomorrow
What I'm trying to say
Is all the worlds on loan
You've got to give back what you borrowed
And so I ask, what have you done
To keep the world here for your son?
As long as he can climb a tree
And not some memory in your head
The Magic of the Natural E.....
Is all he'll need when you are dead
Chorus 3
You've go to get away from
Living for today
And start thinking about tomorrow
What I'm trying to say
Is all the worlds on loan
You've got to give back what you borrowed
Chorus 4
You've go to get away from
Living for today
And start thinking about tomorrow
What I really mean
Is all the worlds on loan
You've got to give back what you borrowed
The Natural 'E' (environment). One of the first 'Haley/Coates' songs to be jointly created and finished back in 1990 Gregorian, and one of the first to be recorded once we'd bought some gear (thanks to help from my brother) the following year
A lot of Cliff's (Coates) songs had this kind of chord structure back then, so we based this one similarly and made the whole thing together. I took the lead vocal and we recorded it on a recently acquired second hand tape machine in August 1991. Unfortunately we couldn't then afford anything as fancy as a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) machine for mastering, much as we would have loved one, so we had to make do with normal cassette tape.
So the quality is not great but at least you can hear how the song goes!
We were both big into environmental issues, particularly myself, I hate pollution! And so we used saving the planet as the theme, even though some of it was very cheesily manifested and pretty badly sung ;)
