My old home town has been locked down like a military operation
So I’m stuck at home shopping on my phone in a virtual occupation
Everything’s closed but the Amazon flows and feeds the concrete jungle
All the shops in a cardboard box from a warehouse on me dongle
They took my money, but the parcel never came
Feel depressed, been Ali Express-ed, their stuff all looks the same
They want me to stop, to walk to the shop, that’s down the end of my road
They want me to hop, straight to the top of the queue-aargh code
Feel the temptation
Of your virtual occupation
Feel the temptation
Of the virtual occupation
So now I’m feeling down, in a foreign town, with nothing much to see
Need a room, but I spoke too soon, there ain’t none left near me
Want a bedroom scene, but got no data stream, so no ‘Air BnB’ for me
All signed up to the online stuff, the booking dot e-con-omy!
Fast Wi-Fi is a sexy high
Swiping through the app, stuck in the root chakra trap
Send a note, clutch your throat, Cafe emancipation
Straight to bed another baby fed in the ‘Tinder Egg’ generation
Feel the temptation
Of your virtual occupation
Feel the temptation
Of the virtual occupation
The Uber-Eats are riding the streets
Placating desires, puttin’ out munchie fires
So I get myself an Uber, at a ‘suber-duber’ price
And a man on a scooter to deliver my Chinese rice
But I’m fed up with this, they’re takin’ the piss
They're parasites in the stream
I got a twitch, they’re makin’ me itch
Broken my simple life dream
Now I’m sure gonna open my door and
Run down the street to see
If I can pop into the corner shop
And buy direct from my mate Ali!
Morgan Roscouet had the idea for this song and started off with the "everything's closed but the Amazon flows and feeds the concrete jungle" part. We knocked that idea around and jotted some phrases down in my song writing journal. Amazingly, we picked it up to finish it off exactly a year to the day later!
Now we just need a demo of us playing it together!
