I've been without, been within
Chased the fatal demons grin
Felt the chill, morning guilt thing
Shed my blood in this hostile world
Fragile earth place of birth ride the surf have the nerve square the curve
You could too, you could do it, you could do it too
You should too, you should do it, you should do it too
Play with life, dance with death
Fear the fatal demon's breath
Bare your soul, edge of night
Face the wasted truth inside
Open wound, never heal
Keep it fresh, live until the thrust of steel
You could too, you could do it, you could do it too
You should too, you should do it, you should do it too
You should too, you should feel it, you should feel it too
You should too, you should do it, you should do it too
Play with life, dance with death
Feel the fatal demon's breath
Bare your soul, edge of night
High up on a cliff top feel the wind
Open wound, never heal
Keep it fresh, live until the thrust of steel
You could too, you could do it, you could do it too
You should too, you should do it, you should do it too
You should too, you should feel it, you should feel it too
You should too, you should do it, you should do it too
with Cliff Coates on bass
Thirty years on from when we wrote it, this one is for Cliff (Coates - featured in the artwork above) with all my love (... high up on a clifftop feel the wind...)
It has rather an apt title based on its sound. It starts with 'you' and ends with 'too' which could also be heard as 'U2' who I was very much into at the time this was written in 1992 Gregorian ('Achtung Baby' era). These days I would use the phrase 'you could do it too' as I'm not really into telling other people what to do, so in this latest version I've added in that option, but the idea is, you know, push the boundaries, take a few risks, (some of it's quite dark and sexual) experience the yin and the yang and you will definitely feel ALIVE!
Live life to the full, because you never know how long it's going to last or what's going to happen... Experience the darkness to know the light
Sadly Cliff is not doing so good these days, so my heart goes out to him and his family, with many thanks for all the fun musical days we shared together. Blessings my friend.
