When I was playing a Venus night some Irish were in town
They were a bunch of loons but they loved their tunes, so great to have around
But my eyes were drawn to a sultry lass who sat there quiet and still
and as I played I saw that maiden pop a little pill
I wondered why she’d taken it. How would it manifest?
Was it the flower of some super power, or for a song she might request?
Then as I sang the change began, she started to transform
And with her face the sound of bass and drums she did perform
My eyes began to widen her volume did increase
We’d not gone far when a folk guitar was added to the piece!
And then an Irish fiddle was thrown into the mix
It was so profound the depth of sound as she performed her tricks
And then I heard some Uillean pipes, a penny whistle too
She played them all as I recall, then suddenly I knew!
I’d heard a tale of one such lass who sang such sounds as these
From low to top the notes she’d hop her musical trapeze
Without a single instrument, she didn’t need to play
She’d wow the hoards with her vocal chords from Cork to Mandalay
It was Nadia from Dublin! She’s famed throughout the land
With her long dark hair and her fiery stare She Sings A One Man Band
And here she was this very night transforming in my gaze
And before too long I stopped my song as I was so amazed
The noise a-coming from her throat it filled the now still air
I said “Oh shit! The dust I’ve bit” as the crowd they turned to stare
No longer did they look at me, no longer did they listen
They began to purr entranced by her like kittens they were smitten
I lost my show and want you to know if you are a musician
Please take care, you’d best beware, you’ll not fulfil your mission!
If Nadia’s in the audience, anywhere you play
And pops that pill of her free will then she will seize your day
She’s Nadia from Dublin! She’s famed throughout the land
With her long dark hair and her fiery stare She Sings A One Man Band
Oh yes She’s Nadia from Dublin! She’s famed throughout the land
With her long dark hair and her fiery stare She Sings A One Man Band
She’s Nadia from Dublin! She’s famed throughout the land
With her long dark hair and her fiery stare She Sings A One Man Band
This one was a challenge from some of my audience
One (Gregorian 'Friday' - Venus' Day) night at one of my regular gigs there was a bunch of holiday makers from Ireland. They were really enjoying the gig and taking full part, as Celts are known to do. They also came by whilst I was playing at my next gig a couple of days later down at the beach. Then after that gig I bumped into them again while I was carrying the gear back to the van!
One of the guys was messing around saying that one of the girls (Nadia) could play guitar too. I joined in by saying that I'd heard about her, and that she could also play bass and drums! Then one of the other girls asked me if I could write a song about Nadia before the next gig, which they all promised to come to.
Never one to decline a song writing challenge I of course agreed, and came up with this one, one morning in my van :) Unfortunately the guys never turned up for the next gig, so they never got to hear the song :( But I played it acoustically after the gig and another girl there was so impressed that she asked me to write one about her before my next gig! I rose to the challenge again (Stefanie from Belgium) but then she didn't turn up either!
I wonder where it's all going to end...
